The Lavenda Springs Primary school school opened in January of 2001 with 5 students. Today their are 250 children. The majority of these children come from the immediate area. Most come from very poor families who live off the land as subsistence farmers.
The school operates from Kinder through to Standard 8, which is the last grade before starting high school.
The Lavenda Springs high school opened in January 2004. Many children and young people in this community would have never had the opportunity to attend a secondary school until now. In fact, on average, only 23 % of Kenyans ever get to attend a secondary school and less than 15% actually complete their education. In 2005, more than 600,000 young people could not get places in high school and that number seems to be increasing.
