Windmill & Shamba Project |
|
One of the key aims for Lavenda Springs
is to achieve 40% self-sustainability by 2012.
Our first step towards this goal is
the water and shamba project.
Kenya’s political upheaval has had
a huge impact on Lavenda Springs. The unrest has led to the displacement
of many farmers. The resultant downturn in food production has seen
food prices soar.
By installing a windmill pump and drip
irrigation system we will be able to develop 12 acres into shamba
(vegetable garden) which will provide food for our school and protect
it from future price rises.
- Help us improve the health
of the children at Lavenda and minimise illness from waterborne diseases
- The shamba will provide
a significant amount of food for the school, protecting it from potential
food price increases
- This project will have the
potential to extend health benefits associated with fresh water to the
local community
